Doctor pocketSometimes I miss the longer posts out there because I simply don’t have time to read them all.  But for some reason I did sit down and read this one, and it was worth it.  Frank and Barbara Esselinks are in Nigeria for just a couple of months, doing medical work in Jos.  Read in this post their experiences with the Nigerian census, work at the hospital and especially what happened when a very sick 1 year old girl was brought to the hospital.  The post is called Hospital Life.

For more on the medical and cultural challenges in Nigeria, check out this post from Kids’ Doc in Jos, entitled Resistance (Paul).  Again, a longer post and parts of it somewhat technical, but if you’re interested in the details of dealing with HIV this will give you some insight.

Some of my favourite posts from the last few days:

  • Under the African Rain with a new post in a series – the first was A Dream Come True, and here is A Dream Come True Part 2
  • Reflection on a Christmas tragedy at The Rathmell’s
  • When a spouse posts that doesn’t usually post, it’s almost always great – from Chile you can hear from Wendy at News n’ Views Online
  • I keep coming back to this post – from Kurt and Sally Kovach, One word summarizes this year: Change
  • From Kids’ Doc in Jos, a glimpse of Nigeria (something he’s very good at doing) in Junkyard Outing.
  • This is what I like to see – one missionary found another missionary through this site – and left a comment!  A good post and good comments at The Life of Jon, some thoughts
  • From Kevin’s Web Log in Bangladesh, some great pictures in Projects’ Christmas Program
  • Finally, on the lighter side, this 32 word post from Comings Communiqué (Brazil), Quote of the Week

I’ve mentioned Mike’s blog here before, but you may not know that he and his wife Barb both [...]

Recent glimpses of cross-cultural life

28 October 2005

I love stories that give us a little glimpse into life in another culture.  Sometimes it just gives us a picture of a world we’re not familiar with.  Other times we get a better understanding of struggles that missionaries have to face.  Here are three great examples:

Grace – from Kids’ Doc in Jos.  The doctor [...]
