I haven’t done a feature based on photos since April, so here’s a new edition. Photos are a great way to catch people’s attention, and to explain something that words alone can’t explain…

Let me tell you about some pictures I’ve recently seen on blogs around the world…

They finally have a shower, and it’s quite a rig! Who can install me one of those?

Let’s face it – some people will read your post just because of the pictures. Or maybe they won’t bother reading, and they’ll just look at the pictures!

I decided to take that approach today, so here are a few posts that caught my eye just because of the pictures…

Her Dad got hit by a turkey. Or he hit a turkey. Whatever. Really.
I used to live in a place like this – a place with lotsa white stuff
White stuff with kids in it – that’s always cool.
You can do it with manure. And it can be fun.

It looks delicious, but you may be a little surprised to find out what’s in this colourful, popular dessert in Malaysia.

Photo journals from several continents!

I’m starting to get into photo journals. Not making them, but seeing them. What I mean by a photo journal (and I’m just making this definition up) is a single post with a series of photos with short captions (in other words, some text but not much). I like this approach as opposed to the one-photo-per-entry approach, which tends to clog up the feed. If you’re reading in a news reader, those posts might be split up. But an all-in-one-post is short, clear, and interesting. So here are some recent examples:

I stole the name – photo journal, from .:. The Harer’s live journal in Mexico – these are a perfect example. First, Exploring Mexico With Friends: A Photo Journal, and next Round 2 – A Photo Journal.

Missionary photo albums

Many missionaries make good use of photos in their blogs. Some put photos right in their blogs or link to photo albums on their website or in online services such as Yahoo!s Flickr. Blogger also allows you to easily put in photos that you can click on for a larger version. Some of these services allow you to easily put pictures directly into your blog. Depending on what copyright restrictions you have, you can even share these photos with people like me! These photo sets also often have RSS feeds of their own, and you can even leave comments.

Today I went for a quick surf to some of the best photo albums of missionary bloggers. Perhaps I’ll do a separate page with the best albums later. Consider this a test! Comment if you like the idea…
